World History

Notes on what happened when, as we discover it. For now, this will mostly be notes from things we discovered in the last run. Information on events more recent than that will be added as we stumble upon it.

By convention, Comets will be referred to by the number of Comets ago they happened; e.g., "three Comets ago", or C-3.

Recent Events

Things that have happened since the last Comet / during this Comet.

The War of the Lord and Lady (C-1)

  • The Land Bridge between Kor and Kern is created, sealing the Inland Sea.
  • Melmaine becomes a single large island, instead of an archipelago.
  • (??) The Plains of Geddon appear in Red, making it Holy ground to Rush.
  • The Buccaneer is one of the Lady's companions.
  • The Lord and the Lady were an Orange and Blue mage, respectively. They were humans.
  • Imit reawakens from his long slumber and does... something.

The Merfolk War (C-2)

Not so much happened on the mainland (as Comets go - there are a few things that happened), but the Merfolk moved from the Western Ocean to the Eastern one and started fighting the Slith. Managaratha helped them to move, per On His Majesty’s Secret Surface‎.

The Dispersal Of Magics (C-3)

The Oasis takes over the desert east of 'al Jabar.

About half of the cataurs are Unbroken in 'al Jabar and become centaurs. (This may have happened in the interstitial time.)

The Rainbow River disappears, and the Color Zones are established.

Middlesea was built by three of the Comet's Heroes-- Annaliese, the Last Witch of Shu-Mash, Minali Wen (apparently a merchant or rich noble from the Empire), and Davos the Builder (a troll). They thought that a place that was not in any of the magic zones they had created would be helpful as a neutral meeting place, and layered it with a number of benefits to make it a good place to conduct such meetings. One of those benefits was that Annaliese found (created? transformed?) a Spirit to guard it and make it hospitable.

Previous Run (C-4)

Lots happens:

  • Centaurs and cataurs come back into the world; the Valley moves from VaKels to ShuMash, the Oasis moves from Avan to 'al Jabar.
  • Slith reappear, invading everywhere from under the sea.
  • Saurians reappear, start to have children again.
  • Male priests of the Goddess come into the world.
  • 'al Jabar becomes a place where beings are Unbroken.
  • Avan becomes a homeland of the Twins; ShuMash becomes a homeland for Spirits; the whole eastern subcontinent becomes a homeland for the Nameless.
  • Possibly: Ratha becomes a homeland for the Goddess; Trelmane becomes holy to the Five.
  • The Orcslayer becomes the first King of the West, where he is Overlord of the five countries, each of which is somewhat weakened.
  • In Elfheim, the Arba-Sol is defeated and the Tree is destroyed, freeing many many elf souls from having been bound to it.

Rebellion Against Avan (C-5)

About 700 years before C-4.

Tureen and her band of heroes rise up against the oppressive Avani Empire, and it fractures into many countries.

From previous run notes: Fall of the Avani Empire. The Breaker is an advisor to the Avani Emperor. A rebellion begins. A band of heroes, led by Tureen, is instrumental as the core of the rebellion. Two such heros are the Cat, a master thief, and Leni, a witch. Not normally included as part of Tureen's Band (the ones who finally slew the Breaker) is Kyrell, who fell at Tyrek's Fall, defending Tureen's escape against the Breaker's forces. The Lion's Key was held by one of the Breaker's servants at Tyrek's Fall, but it was lost in the battle (and later recovered to become the seal for the Bresling family. Also instrumental in the war was an Avani general who switched sides at the last minute from supporting the Emperor (and the Breaker) to supporting Tureen.

Founding of Avan (C-6)

The Avani empire was founded 1683 years before C-4, uniting the east and west subcontinents of the mainland.

From Previous run notes: Founding of the Avani Empire. A band of heroes throws the head of the lich Vecna into Mount Furious. Kor and Kern become one country.

Marriage Comet (C-7)

Heroes of Kern happens a few hundred years after this Comet.

From previous run notes: A princess of Kor marries a prince of Kern rather than the guy who is actually the Breaker in disguise. This brings Kor and Kern into alliance (though they are not yet one country).

Centaur/Cataur War (C-8)

From previous run notes: Centaurs and Cataurs are wiped out, except for the two villages.

Neverending Winter (C-9)

The Last Warlock sheds his tears, converts to the Five, and men stop being able to learn witchcraft.

From previous run notes: The Great Winter. The cauldron was probably used to feed people during the famine.

The Great War (C-10)

The orcs are unified under a Chieftan and march south; Kor and Kern lead the defense against them, and come to political dominance for several comets.

From previous run notes: A big war with Broken creatures pouring out of the North. Kor and Kern rose to prominence when they banded together to fight off the armies.

Magic Goes Haywire (C-11)

From previous run notes: Yellow magic goes crazy. Previous incarnations of Dunyazade, Jabril, and Marziah run around adventuring. Goblin assassins everywhere, under cover of yellow magic. A group of heroes led by a purple mage and priest of Tam named Jurdak go to the Breaker's Citadel and perform a big ritual to smite the yellow wackiness.
