Mario
Mario is the Centurion's Orange mage and head of the mage corps of Vani's Legion. He is known for pushing the boundaries of Orange magic and was instrumental in setting up the defenses of Julia's household.
Residence and Workshop
His workshop is located inside the overall defenses of the household. Once inside the outer defenses, the lab itself has locks but is not heavily fortified. Mario was instrumental in designing the household's defenses, so the workshop offers no additional protection beyond them.
Stolen Dagger
A dagger was stolen from Mario's workshop. He confirmed the theft and clarified that a separate Dagger of Destruction shown to him by the party was not his work, identifying it instead as Lisador's. His own stolen dagger was described as a particularly potent and deadly item. The process of creating it used all three Orange disciplines, with ingredients including:
- Wyvern blood
- Cyanide, arsenic, and hemlock
- Other locally sourced materials
None of the ingredients were sent by his correspondents, though some were suggested by them. After the party found the dagger and Vidan sanctified it, Mario was disappointed to learn it was no longer Fatal or Broken.
Professional Relationships
Mario corresponds with several experimentalists pushing the boundaries of Orange magic, though none are based in Vani. He knows Federico, though he considers him a non-experimentalist. He holds a low opinion of Lisidro and Fiorello; he would not have allowed Fiorello to examine his work due to a personal falling-out the previous year. He believes the best Orange mage is the Lord himself.
Social Events
Mario was present at the party at the Lord's House. There he attempted to extract information about Orange secrets from Stella, but she successfully concealed knowledge of the Heart of Orange. He was also noted to have accessed a secret passage during the party.
Other Notes
Mario had lunch arranged with Managaratha at the Pig in a Top Hat. He does not appear to have considered the political implications of the dagger theft for his own position. When Managaratha raised the topic of reckless mages or unusual activity, he mentioned an orcish rainbow mage. He also began working with Managaratha on a ritual using Orange and Yellow to locate the stolen dagger, though Scout found it first.
