A River Runs Through It

Lay of the Land

We’re in the Broken Lands. Most of the party is small and in Scout’s bag. He heads down the river, and gets bitten by a plant, which drains his Strength. Bah. We get to the point where there is a Spirit– it’s still a spirit, not a demon! Managaratha notices there’s a big Blue/Green ritual/spell over this section. Scout thinks the Green part is holding the Spirit here until it becomes a demon. Scout doesn’t see any goblins, with 10 successes of Per– which scares him.

Combat

As we analyze the River, a pit opens up and four goblins attack! There is an unseelie who stabs, a goblin Orange mage, a satyr with panpipes, and an ogre.

The satyr plays panpipes and everyone except Nesh is inspired to dance (Saurians only dance when they want to, they can leave their friends behind). We concentrate some fire there and the satyr goes down. The goblin we also get fairly quickly; the unseelie sneaks around and tries to get the satyr up again, but we stop him, and he teleports out. We get the sneaking suspicion that we're now on the clock. We take out the ogre, loot the bodies, and do some work to figure out how we can get the spirit out. Scout offers to give the Spirit more power, and there's some suppression of the spell keeping it in place, and that's enough to break it free. As we start fleeing down the river towards the exit point, four demons appear, but we're mostly too far ahead, and we escape with the spirit.

In the aftermath, we get some information, from the spirit:

Three Drow shamans set up the trap. One was Silenalania, another was the King’s advisor, and the third was someone we don’t recognize. They are not the Boss of the organization, although they’re clearly high up. The trap part of the ritual was set up, and then they teleported her up. They were all shamans as well as mages. They’re probably all Green, although they also used Blue and Purple to make it happen.

There are a bunch of connections from Spirit Breaker citadel to other places, probably wherever they sent their demon. It seems like their plan was to send her back to Green as a demon, with something to keep her Broken. Scout’s eyes are the link for his spirit; the mushroom ring helped the Mushroom demon stay Broken; a Broken lands spring feeding into the River would probably have worked.

Back in Green

Futeau could plausibly have been the third Drow that the River saw, according to His Majesty and Ambassador Strong, who we inquire about. Ambassador Strong seems to have a reasonable Mind stat, but doesn’t crush our little minds or anything.

Could Scout find a path to a demon? Probably something.

Scout looks for information about pooka shamans that might be able to help him with his goal of expanding his Find the Path schtick. There’s one with a maze, so we decide that seems plausible, and head that way.

On the way there, we lure a nearby demon by hitting it with lightning. It is a small but toxic snake; Scout finds Broken Lands dirt and rocks in its burrow.

Stella has been investigating the orange items from the orange goblin; they are similar to the unpleasant swords from Orange.
